"Your Library's library
brings my patrons
what they want
when they want it.
It makes us look good.
We shine even more."

Did your links disappear? Used to be able to connect, but can't anymore? Relax, you found the right place. Here are some solutions to common database problems. If you still need more help, contact Rick Levine at 508-757-4110 x308

In-Library Setup

If your library's computers connect to the Internet using static (permanently-assigned, non-private) IP addresses that uniquely identify your location, they will be automatically authenticated for access to the databases through the links below.

If your library's computers connect to the Internet using dynamic or shared IP addresses, you will be prompted for a username and/or password. In that case, before accessing the databases for the first time, be sure to disable any desktop security program (e.g., Fortres, Norton Security, etc.) that may block cookies. Once a cookie is set, security can be re-enabled, and subsequent access to the databases will be authorized without a prompt. Should the browser's cookies be deleted, you will need to re-authenticate by typing in the username and/or password again.

If your library changes Internet service providers, or installs a proxy server or a firewall, or makes other changes to the IP addressing of your network, this can affect your access. Please contact CMRLS with information about these changes.

In-Library Links
The databases are licensed for direct access from any computer in a public library, or any computer on a school or academic campus. Access from special libraries is restricted to the library proper.

Links to the database may be created as Desktop shortcuts, browser bookmarks or favorites, or links on a Web page. If a publicly accessible Web page is used, be sure to include remote access links for users accessing the databases from outside the library.

Note that the URLs that appear in the browser's address bar may be different from those below. If you create links from the browser ("Create shortcut" or "Add to favorites"), the resultant links should be checked for the proper address, and edited as needed.

Remote Setup

All databases are available from home or office by logging in with a CMRLS public library card number. Link to a  "barcode entry box" at
http://mblc.state.ma.us/cgi-bin/remote.pl or http://www.cmrls.org/databases/login.htm.

Alternatively, a barcode entry box can be placed directly on your library's Web page. Simply copy and paste the  text into your HTML code. Barcode entry box scripts can be further refined to direct the remote user to specific databases instead of the MBLC's general list by appending "?db=<remote_code>" to the URL in the script (see samples). Remote access codes* are as follows:
